Honey, known for its sweetness, is an age-old treat. It has been found in archaeological digs and ancient tombs and can likely even be found in your own cupboard. Besides its high sugar content and sweetness, one of the things that makes honey so valuable is its shelf life. It is a treat that can last almost indefinitely if sealed, and although it may naturally cream or crystallize, it never truly expires.
However, there is something even sweeter and more enduring than honey. The Bible tells us to taste and see that the Lord is good. (Psalm 34:8) You see today, God has an offer for you, His offer of salvation and peace.
Over two thousand years ago, God sent his son, Jesus, to bring this free gift of eternal life. You see, each one of us was born with a problem: the problem of sin. (Romans 3:23) It is our sin, the wrong we’ve done and our very nature, that has separated us from God and from peace with him. (Isaiah 59:2). This same problem is the reason for the eternal punishment of hell spoken of in the Bible. (Luke 16:19-31). But the good news the Bible teaches is that the Lord Jesus came to deal with this problem by taking our sin upon himself. (2 Corinthians 5:21) He did this when he went to the cross, and there God punished Him for your sin and mine. Today, the promise is extended that anyone who places their trust in the Lord Jesus is not condemned but has eternal life! (John 3:16-18) This everlasting promise of sweet forgiveness is offered to you! You can have peace with God, eternal salvation, and a home in heaven.
One songwriter who tasted what God had to offer and took hold of the promise wrote these words:
‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Would you like to taste this freely offered sweetness? God calls us to come and purchase this salvation without money and without price (Isaiah 55:1), reminding us in the Bible that it is the free gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8) There is nothing for you to pay or do; Jesus did it all. (John 19:30)
God’s offer is sweeter and more enduring than honey. It is just as good today as it was two thousand years ago. Will you taste and see? Because the sweetness of Christ can fully satisfy the hungry soul.
Now none but Christ can satisfy,
none other name for me!
There’s love and life and lasting joy,
Christ Jesus, found in thee.
